This Year’s Crop of Anime Halloween Costumes Are Hilariously Bad –
American corporate interests dipping their toes into the anime business might feel wrong, but it’s a little funny to watch them try to capitalize on the “niche market” they ignored for years. Case in point: This year’s anime Halloween costumes, which often look like they were produced and marketed by someone whose only experience with animation involved looking at a poster of The Croods one time. In a way, it’s kind of nice to see Naruto and Goku getting the same shoddy costume treatment as Black Panther and Thanos.
We were all set to scour the internet for the silliest and cringiest anime Halloween costumes available, but before we began, they found us.
In some cases, the costume itself isn’t too bad — but everything about the packaging is super awkward. These models are no doubt trying their best, but the stock photos just came out corny as hell. There are talented, great-looking cosplayers out there that prove anime costumes can look awesome in real life. Maybe not on a budget, though. I’m trying to keep a level head here. These costumes are mass produced, made cheaply because people are going to only wear them once.
Hot Topic’s “Future Trunks” costume photo gave me brainworms just looking at it
