“You can avoid the charges but you can’t avoid the ride?”
Meaning, they arrest you, even with no good reason, to make a statement, to send a message: that any perceived dissent toward them or what they’re doing will, at the least, result in you being manhandled, handcuffed, and temporarily arrested, without any true repercussions on them for doing so.
Remember: cops exist to enforce “law and order” by any means necessary, including violence. They do not exist to protect and serve. If you think that’s untrue, read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia
